Ah the B-movie. There's nothing quite so
satisfying as a movie so bad its good. For the first of my
(hopefully) long list of horror movie reviews, I figured I'd
start off with my all time favorite, the Evil Dead Trilogy.
Sam Raimi (of Spiderman fame) started his career in a run down
cabin in the woods with his childhood friends. What
started out as a simple film project led to successful (kind of)
careers for those involved with it. Where as the first
Evil Dead was an attempt to be scary, its two sequels loosened
up and had a sense of humor, thus Evil Dead 2 and 3 (army of
darkness) became cult favorites, and the hero became the basis
for Duke Nukem.
Bruce Campbell is the ultimate hero in the moves as he battles
hordes of Zombies often times being crazier then the demons he
battles. After chopping off his hand and replacing it with
a chainsaw, as well as being equipped with his sawed-off
shotgun, its quite entertaining to see Ash (Campbell) go on
bloody rampages.

With 40 times more gore than needed or
even possible, and just all around dumb fun,
Evil Dead sits atop the B-Movie Pyramid.
Hail to the king, Baby! |
